E-Commerce Development

Loads in under 2 seconds. Checks out in under 60.

Every 100ms of load time costs you conversion. Every extra step in checkout costs you orders. We build e-commerce stores optimised for the two things that actually drive revenue: speed and a frictionless path to purchase. Whether you're on Shopify and hitting its limits, running WooCommerce on creaking infrastructure, or building headless from scratch — we've done it and we know the pitfalls.

Why Origin for E-Commerce Development

Speed is a conversion feature, not a nice-to-have

Every architectural decision is evaluated against page speed. We don't ship stores with LCP over 2.5s — it's a hard rule, not a guideline.

Conversion-tested before launch

We run session recording and funnel analysis on your staging environment before go-live. Checkout friction is fixed in staging, not discovered after launch.

ERP and warehouse integrations we've actually built

NetSuite, SAP, Unicommerce, Increff — we know how these systems behave, including the edge cases that only appear after 10,000 orders.

How we can work together

Choose the engagement model that fits your situation.

Fixed Build

Complete store build — architecture, design, development, integrations, and launch — delivered to a fixed scope and price.

Best for: New stores or full rebuilds with defined requirements

Growth Retainer

Monthly sprint-based development of new features, landing pages, and optimisations as your catalogue and marketing needs evolve.

Best for: Growing stores that need continuous development and CRO

Platform Migration

Phased migration from your current platform (WooCommerce, Magento, custom) to a modern headless or Shopify stack — store stays live throughout.

Best for: Businesses outgrowing their current platform without disrupting operations

Our old WooCommerce store took 8 seconds to load on mobile and crashed every Black Friday. The new headless build loads in 1.4 seconds and handled our biggest sale day without a single hiccup.

Frequently asked questions

Should we use Shopify or build a custom storefront?
Shopify for most brands: it handles payments, fulfilment integrations, and the operational side well, and Shopify Hydrogen lets you build a custom frontend without losing those benefits. Custom headless (Medusa + Next.js) makes sense when you have complex pricing logic, non-standard fulfilment, or B2B buying flows that Shopify can't model. We'll map your requirements against both options and give you a concrete recommendation.
How do you handle high-traffic events like sales and launches?
Load testing before the event, edge caching for product and collection pages, queue-based checkout to prevent overselling, and pre-scaled infrastructure with headroom. We also run a pre-event checklist and stay on standby during the peak window. The sites that go down during Black Friday do so because nobody tested them at 10× normal traffic. We test them.
Can you integrate with our ERP or warehouse management system?
Yes. Inventory sync, order routing, fulfilment status updates, and returns processing are all integrations we've built — against NetSuite, SAP, Unicommerce, Increff, and bespoke warehouse systems. The integration approach depends on what APIs your systems expose: real-time webhooks where possible, scheduled sync where not.
How do you approach conversion rate optimisation?
We start with the data: session recordings, funnel drop-off analysis, and heatmaps to find where users are leaving. Then we form hypotheses and test them — page speed improvements, checkout step reduction, product page layout changes, trust signals. We don't guess about what will improve conversion; we measure it.
We're on Shopify but want a custom frontend — can you migrate us to headless?
Yes. Shopify as backend (inventory, payments, orders) with a Next.js frontend via the Storefront API is a well-trodden path. You keep the Shopify admin your team knows, get full control over the frontend experience, and typically see significant speed improvements. We manage the migration in phases so the store stays live throughout.
